Solar Sales Representative

Job description

The Solar Sales Representative will work with homeowners, municipalities, schools, organizations, and businesses to foster relationships throughout the community leading to greater energy independence. The solar specialist will contact existing warm leads via email and phone, conduct solar energy surveys of their properties, and design solar energy systems. Collaborating with office and engineering staff to ensure a smooth installation is crucial for a seamless customer experience and building long-term relationships.

The territory is greater Maine, with 90% of the work occurring within 1.5 hours of Searsport. This position also occasionally includes community outreach about solar energy in Maine, attending trade shows, and giving presentations.

Compensation: Combination of Base and Hourly

Qualifications:

Sundog Solar seeks Full-Time Licensed Electricians to join our team as an Electrician specializing in Residential and Commercial electrical installations of Grid-Tied and Off-Grid Solar Electric systems and other renewable energy systems. Our growing solar company offers opportunities for advancement.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate high professional standards, a strong interest in renewable energy, and will be comfortable communicating with customers and be computer proficient. Preference will be given to licensed electricians.
Candidates should be physically located in the region where Installations are concentrated, in coastal, island, interior, and Southern areas of Maine. Candidates from New England who are interested in relocating to Maine are strongly encouraged to apply.

Additional requirements of the job include the ability to lift up to 100 lbs, and the ability to work efficiently on rooftops. As a Master Electrician working for Sundog Solar, your primary responsibilities will be the following:

Have a current Master Electricians license in the state of Maine.
Be responsible for the AC and/or DC side of residential and commercial solar projects.

Solar Electric Systems/grid tied:

Secure necessary permits for residential and commercial work.
Make any arrangements with the utility company prior to installation date.
Lead AC installation including: balance of system (BOS) layout, inverter installation, conduit and wiring, service disconnects, grid intertie, voltage testing, and ensuring compliance with all NEC and AHJ requirements for solar systems.
Oversee the roof mounting of solar modules by other crewmembers.
Grid tied with battery backup systems, install and connect batteries to system.

Solar Electric Systems/off grid:

Installation including: balance of system (BOS) layout, inverter installation, conduit and wiring, service disconnects, charge controllers, voltage testing, and ensuring compliance with all NEC and AHJ requirements for solar systems.
Connect solar array(s) and module strings to charge controller and then to inverter.
Oversee the roof mounting of solar modules by other crewmembers
Install and connect batteries to system

Mini-split heat pumps:

Run 20amp and 30amp circuits for Multi-Zone and Single Zone systems including breakers, emt and GFI disconnects.

Electrician should also be able to comfortably lift 75lbs, climb ladders.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
Duties include loading/unloading equipment, staging and ladder work, using hand tools and carrying equipment on rooftops.

This will be a full-time, long-term position for the right candidate.

Roles and Responsibilities of Solar Installers:
Assist with overall crew and job site safety.
Assist the Lead Solar Installer with installations.
Assist with project loading to ensure all necessary materials and tools arrive on the job site.

Critical Skills/Expectations:

Full-Time Senior Solar Installer

This person will work as a member of the Sundog Solar team installing residential, commercial, and municipal solar energy systems. The ideal candidate has high professional standards, a basic technical understanding of solar electric design, and experience installing solar energy systems.

This person is comfortable communicating with customers and is proficient with computers in mac and windows. The ideal candidate is organized, open to collaborating with members of the Sundog Solar team, and works well with others. Preference will be given to solar installers who are Licensed Electricians and those who have completed NABCEP certification or are currently in NABCEP training.

Candidates should reside in the region where installations are concentrated, in coastal, island, interior and Southern areas of Maine. Candidates from New England who are interested in relocating to Maine are encouraged to apply.

Solar Design Engineer

It will be your responsibility to support Sundog Solar and our sales associates with accurate design and engineering tasks related to our projects in a timely manner and within company parameters.  Other responsibilities will include detailed clarification on scopes of work for project management, in coordination and collaboration with office management, office administrative staff, field operations management, and crew leads.  Your position will be vital to each and every project that you are involved with creating outstanding project design and engineering and delivering a seamless customer experience and building long-term relationships.

Job Responsibilities: Solar Design Engineer (not limited to):

  • Provide engineering services for solar PV projects ranging in scale from 1kW-2MW). These services include designing and drafting, energy performance modeling, project estimating
  • Talk with customers and engineers to assess equipment needs and to determine system requirements
  • Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer requirements and provide sales design support
  • Help clients solve problems with installed equipment
  • Coordinate with manufacturers to provide construction-ready plans and details for installations utilizing autocad design software
  • Originate Solar PV designs with various PV design software
  • Provide solar technical consulting expertise to clientele as needed to address immediate needs or long-term strategies
  • Create and maintain project documentation related to project design and development
  • Communicate with project development and project management teams to coordinate design requirements and scheduling
  • Processing of site assessment data for final system design, including shading, structural, visual and electrical analysis

  • Work with 3rd party structural engineers to perform structural analysis on buildings to determine roof load bearing capacity
  • Work with outside engineering firms to get drawings PE stamped as necessary
  • Work with outside engineering firms for the preparation of civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, erosion & sediment control plans, and other necessary services outside of in house engineering capabilities for projects
  • Assist installation team with remote technical support and onsite support as needed
  • Assist with the creation of detailed Scope of Work Statements as needed for subcontractors
  • Review plansets by the drafting team and provide feedback and corrections as necessary
  • Complete technical analysis of utility bills and demand data to determine savings data and appropriate system sizing
  • Travel as necessary to perform job related functions that require being in the field
  • Perform computer simulations of PV system performance and energy production to optimize efficiency

Service Manager

Your position will grow into a vital role supporting Sundog’s customers and our engineering and installation teams in problem solving and fixing all service related work in a timely manner and within company parameters.  Other responsibilities will include product warranty return paperwork and processing as well as labor warranty processing and tracking.  You will be responsible for managing the development of Sundog’s annual service maintenance scopes of work, contract management with individual customers and customer/crew scheduling of scheduled annual maintenance.  It will be critical for you to work closely in coordination and collaboration with office management, office administrative staff, engineering, field operations management, sales, and crew leads in achieving timely and efficient service work.  Your position will be vital to each and every project that you are involved with creating a seamless customer experience, delivering and building upon long-term customer relationships. It will be your responsibility to support Sundog Solar in all aspects of service work related to any of the systems and projects that Sundog Solar works on,  managing the delivery of both corrective and preventive maintenance services to Sundog’s fleet of over 1,000 residential and commercial solar PV customer installations and HP customer installations.  

Job Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Offsite Monitoring and troubleshooting of individual photovoltaic systems
  • Coordination of onsite troubleshooting with Sundog Service Technicians
  • Onsite manufacturing tech support and troubleshooting
  • Fixing and repairing any service related issues within your capabilities
  • Scheduling service work with management, customers and work crews
  • Help clients remotely solve problems with installed equipment where possible

  • Effectively manage the financial and operational performance of the service department

  • Leverage Sundog’s customer service ticketing system to maintain detailed documentation of service work performed, findings, and results on a per-incident basis
  • Determine warranty vs. charge-ability of service work on a per-incident basis, as well as develop price quotes and estimates for chargeable work
  • Collaborate with existing warehouse teams to facilitate a streamlined shipping and receiving process for service products
  • Provide input and clarity on project management and CRM software tracking of service issues and products
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships for warranty claim resolution
  • File and track warranty claims with vendors
  • Complete Return merchandise authorizations (RMA), and insurance claims
  • Communicate with Accounting team regarding AR/AP with clarifying documentation for billing
  • Set up shipments with freight companies
  • Manage lead times and keep CRM up to date with accurate timing of parts shipment
