19 Jun Happy Summer Solstice!
Today is the summer solstice or the day the Earth reaches the maximum tilt towards the sun. This annual event marks the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
This year, there are more installed solar energy systems than ever before. There is now 3.6 GW of installed solar capacity, enough to power 15.7 million homes. Solar installations in the last decade have been so widespread due to the falling cost of solar equipment, advances in solar technology, and federal tax incentives.
The potential of the sun to provide our energy needs is vast. In just one hour, enough energy strikes the Earth to provide all the energy the world consumes in one year. The sun gives us a virtually inexhaustible supply of clean energy every day.
The summer solstice is an excellent opportunity to be grateful to the sun for sustaining life on Earth.
